"The Hate U Give: BSPA Movie + Youth Forum"

In partnership with St. Luke’s Foundation, The Cleveland Police Foundation, NOBLE, Cleveland Division of Police, Our Voices Matter and Cleveland Rising Coalition, select BSPA members watched the blockbuster movie “The Hate U Give” last Thursday with students from John Adams Career Academy, East Tech High School, Benedictine High School, Saint Ignatius High School, Holy Name High School, Paul Dunbar Elementary School (8th graders with parent chaperones).

Bridging the gap between 21st Century youth and 21st Century community policing is an incremental process. The students were highly introspective - speaking about intra-community violence, bullying, peer pressure, tensions between local police and residents and drug use. Furthermore, the students were able to articulate extremely complex current events about the challenges of modern policing, with statistics and a level of detail which only serves as a testament to their amazing teachers and mentors.
