Det. Marvin Young | July 2021 Member of the Month

Before joining the Cleveland Division of Police, Det. Marvin Young started his career as a police dispatcher in August 1986. Det. Young continued serving as a dispatcher until May 2001.

In his 20 years with the Cleveland Division of Police, Det. Young has served in Cleveland's Third and Fourth Districts as a Detective. He is currently assigned to the Intelligence Unit and is detailed to the Mayor's security detail.


Det. Marvin Young was the recipient of a Distinguished Service Medal in 2013, which is awarded to police officers who demonstrate a high degree of personal initiative and who perform substantially beyond normal requirements in an exemplary manner. Det. Young has many hobbies, including bowling, basketball, working out, and traveling. His passion resides in his ability to work with the community, in particular, with young children.


Detective Marvin Young is recognized as the BSPA's Officer of the Month for July 2021 for his dedication to the community and in recognition as a longtime member of the Black Shield.
